Jobs for Lewisham's Young People
150 new jobs will be created in Lewisham thanks to funding from the Labour Government's Future Jobs Fund. Mayor Steve has made sure that the Council is at the forefront of helping local residents through the recession. Some Tory run Councils would rather let the recession run its course but Labour in Lewisham recognises that we all need to take action to ensure that Lewisham emerges from the recession stronger than ever.
This is the second successful bid Lewisham has made from the Future Jobs Fund and will see jobs created for long-term jobless young people in organisations such as Age Concern and Lewisham College as well the Council. Mayor Steve has already set up a apprenticeships scheme which aims to get school leavers into the world of work. Labour in Lewisham is also freezing Council tax until at least 2011 as we aim to make things as easy as possible for Lewisham's residents.
