Commemorative plaque to mark the 67th anniversary of V1 bomb

Picture
At 9.41am on Friday 28 July 1944 a V1 rocket landed in Lewisham Market killing
51 people and injuring many more.  After a one minute silence in memory of the
tragedy a commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark the 67th anniversary.

Heidi Alexander MP is joined by Cabinet Member for Community Services Chris Best and Stella Jeffrey, Councillor for Lewisham Central ward.

More than 100 shops were very badly damaged and the High Street was completely rebuilt after the war on both sides of the road.

Lewisham Council continues to invest in town centres and the site is Lewisham Central opposite the DLR and bus station is well on the way to providing new homes and a brand new state of the art leisure centre.
