Council Launches Budget Consultation
Mayor Steve has launched Lewisham Council's public consultation on the savings the Council will have to make over the coming years. Labour was up front during the election that the Council would face a squeeze on spending but everyone has been shocked at the speed at which the Lib Dem -Tory alliance is slashing public spending. A Labour Government would have had to cut government spending but it would never have done it so quickly and so deeply. The government's approach risks putting the recovery at risk and poorly thought out cuts will affect the worst off in society.
The Council's budget process isn't just about saving money. It's about the community working with the Council to come up with new ways of working. Everyone understand that less money means that the Council will have to put off doing some things that everyone would consider desirable but this consultation is one where you can genuinely have your say and feed your ideas into the decision making process.
